When it comes to survival horror games, the Resident Evil 4 (Biohazard 4) series is one of the most well-known and popular franchises around. Spanning multiple console generations and featuring spin-offs, remakes, and movies, there’s no shortage of content for fans to enjoy. But of all the games in the series, which one is the best? In our opinion, it’s 2005’s Resident Evil 4. Here’s why.

The Gameplay is Polished and Refined

One of the things that sets Resident Evil 4 (Biohazard 4) apart from other entries in the series is its gameplay. Featuring an over-the-shoulder camera perspective that was a first for the franchise, RE4 did away with the tank controls and static camera angles of previous games and replaced them with a more fluid and user-friendly control scheme. These controls, combined with well-designed levels and intelligent enemy AI, made for a much more enjoyable and immersive experience.

The Story is Compelling and Engaging

While past Resident Evil 4 (Biohazard 4) games had stories that were serviceable at best, RE4’s narrative was downright engrossing. Focusing on special forces agent Leon S. Kennedy as he travels to a remote Spanish village in search of the president’s daughter, Ashley Graham, the game does a great job of gradually pacing out its revelations and keeping players engaged from start to finish.
RE4 also features some memorable characters, including Ada Wong, who quickly became a fan-favorite thanks to her cute yet badass personality.

The Game Looks Absolutely Stunning…Even by Today’s Standards

When RE4 originally released back in 2005, it was praised for its gorgeous graphics and impressive visual effects. And while other games have definitely managed to surpassed it in terms of raw graphical power in the intervening years, RE4 still holds up surprisingly well thanks to its art direction. Set largely during daytime hours in bright and colorful locations like villages and castles, RE4 is a feast for the eyes even by today’s standards—a true testament to its lasting power.

In conclusion, Resident Evil 4 (Biohazard 4) is not only one of the best games in the series but one of the best survival horror games period. If you haven’t played it yet, we highly recommend doing so—you won’t be disappointed!
