Pokemon Go Mewtwo Raid Guide: Best Counters, Weaknesses and Moveset

The mythical psychic Pokemon is once again available in raids.

Mewtwo has returned until July 1.

For a moment, another fan-favorite legendary Pokemon has returned to Pokemon Go. The mythical psychic kind Mewtwo will appear in five-star raids through the end of June, with one of two special Charged Attacks available depending on when you encounter it. Here are some pointers to assist you in defeating and capturing Mewtwo before it leaves the raid rotation again.

Mewtwo raid schedule

From June 16 to July 1, Mewtwo will be a five-star raid boss. The mythical Pokemon will have a distinct Charged Attack based on the date you fight it.

The ghost-type move Shadow Ball is known by all Mewtwos you encounter in raids until 10 a.m. local time on June 23. Following that, every Mewtwo you come across until July 1 will know the psychic-type attack Psystrike instead.

Mewtwo weaknesses

Mewtwo is a psychic-type Pokemon, meaning it’s weak to only three types of attacks: dark, ghost, and bug. Any Pokemon from those categories are effective against Mewtwo, but dark creatures in particular are ideal because they resist both ghost- and psychic-type assaults while delivering super-effective damage.

Here are a few ideas for battling against Mewtwo with Pokemon and techniques to consider:

Dark

  • Houndoom: Snarl, Crunch
  • Tyranitar: Bite, Crunch
  • Darkrai: Snarl, Dark Pulse
  • Zoroark: Snarl, Foul Play
  • Absol: Snarl, Dark Pulse
  • Weavile: Snarl, Avalanche
  • Bisharp: Snarl, Dark Pulse

Ghost

  • Gengar: Lick, Shadow Ball
  • Banette: Hex, Shadow Ball
  • Chandelure: Hex, Shadow Ball
  • Mismagius: Hex, Shadow Ball
  • Origin Forme Giratina: Shadow Claw, Shadow Ball

Bug

  • Mega Beedrill: Bug Bite, X-Scissor
  • Escavalier: Bug Bite, Megahorn
  • Genesect: Fury Cutter, X-Scissor

Best moveset for Mewtwo

Mewtwo’s specialty move is Shadow Ball, which is an excellent Charged Attack that can be obtained by both Shadow Ball and Psystrike. It all depends on personal preference which one you want the mythological Pokemon to know.

Mewtwo’s Psychic is a powerful STAB attack that can strike ghost and other psychic Pokemon for super-effective damage. Psystrike is an excellent antidote to poisoning and fighting Pokemon, thanks to its same-type attack bonus and counter against poison and fighting Pokemon. To round out the legendary Pokemon’s arsenal, it should learn the Fast Attack Confusion.
