Test Drive Unlimited is a racing video game developed by Eden Games and published by Atari. Test Drive Unlimited is the ninth installment of the Test Drive series, and the first to be marketed under the Unlimited franchise.
The game features over 125 licensed cars and motorcycles, a terrain modeled after the island of Oahu, Hawaii, with some 30 miles (48 km) of roadways, and an open-ended world gameplay that allows players to progress at their own pace.
Test Drive Unlimited challenges players online to experience the most exotic and fastest vehicles on more than 1000 miles of Hawaiis roads. Test Drive Unlimited was produced by Eden Studios for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 2. The PSP version was developed by Everest Software and published by Atari. Test Drive Unlimited was released in North America on February 21, 2006 for Xbox 360 and March 14, 2006 for PlayStation 2 and PC.
The game introduces a new gameplay element to the series by incorporating the use of terrestrial radio transmissions, which are used to deliver news, introduce challenges, and promote special events. The game also features several real-world locations, such as Honolulu International Airport and Diamond Head crater. Test Drive Unlimited received mixed reviews from critics upon release. However, the game’s online functionality received positive reception.
