The objective of PaRappa The Rapper is to complete songs by pressing buttons in time with the music. The player must repeat what PaRappa’s instructor says verbatim in order to progress through the song. PaRappa The Rapper uses a unique visual style that consists of 2D cardboard cutouts placed over a 3D background.

PaRappa The Rapper was well-received by critics and is considered a classic game. It has been included in several lists of the best video games of all time. PaRappa The Rapper was followed by a sequel, PaRappa the Rapper 2, which was released for the PlayStation 2 in 2001.
