This 2D side-scrolling platformer picks up where its predecessor left off: after failing to attack Peach Castle, Bowser and Koopalings use similar tactics to launch their second invasion attempt. This time, Mario’s absence from the mission meant that he would avoid being kidnapped. Luigi and his two companions Toads then began their voyage back to the castle in distant lands. But this journey wasn’t alone; Nabbit (formerly an adversary of New Super Mario Bros) offered his assistance as well, aiding our heroes on their quest to rescue Princess Peach yet again. The gameplay in “New Super Luigi U” is strikingly similar to that of the original, with all levels tuned for Luigi’s finesse. This includes his penchant for higher jumps, floatier physics and slightly less accurate handling – a combination which makes each level shorter yet more challenging than before. One of the most unique aspects of this game is that you get to decide who controls Nabbit, replacing Mario. Despite being selected as a player character, Nabbit remains slightly antagonistic – like in New Super Mario Bros U – where he will still be chased if he isn’t chosen by a user.
