For many gamers, Mortal Kombat 4 was their introduction to the series. The game was a huge hit when it was released in arcades in 1997 and remains one of the most popular installments in the franchise today. In this article, we’ll take a look at the history of Mortal Kombat 4 and how it has shaped the series over the past two decades.

Mortal Kombat 4 is the fourth main installment in the Mortal Kombat series of fighting games developed by Midway Games. Released to arcades in 1997, Mortal Kombat 4 is the first title from the series, and one of the first made by Midway overall, to use 3D computer graphics. The gameplay retained its 2D fighting game roots, but with added 3D effects and stages.

The game’s story takes place after the events of Mortal Kombat 3 and focuses on the return of Raiden. He assembles a new team of warriors to do battle with Shao Kahn, who has resurrected an ancient warrior named Shang Tsung as his second-in-command. The game’s roster consists mostly of new fighters (with a few returning fan favorites), including Jax Briggs, Tanya, Cyber Sub-Zero, Fujin, Jacqui Briggs, Kung Lao, Liu Kang (as a zombie), Raiden, Reptile, Scorpion, Shinnok and Sub-Zero.

Mortal Kombat 4 was well-received upon its release and is still considered one of the best games in the series by many fans. Its focus on story and characters helped to set it apart from other fighting games of its time and its 3D graphics were groundbreaking for the genre. The game would go on to spawn several sequels over the years, including Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, Mortal Kombat: Armageddon and Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe.

Mortal Kombat 4 remains one of the most popular installments in the franchise to this day thanks to its focus on story and characters. If you’re a fan of fighting games or just looking for a good time, then be sure to check out Mortal Kombat 4!
