God of War: Ghost of Sparta is a singleplayer action-adventure video game for the PlayStation Portable (PSP). The game was first released on November 2, 2010 in North America. The game is the sixth installment in the God of War series and the second chronologically. Ghost of Sparta is set in ancient Greece with disposing gods and beasts. The player controls protagonist Kratos, Spartan supreme commander of the Athenian forces.
Kratos is still haunted by visions of his mortal past and embarks on a quest to discover his origins. In Sparta, he learns that his mother once sacrificed him to Ares, the god of war, in order to ensure a Spartan victory in battle. Kratos murders her for betraying him and then journeys to Athens, where he takes his place asgod of war after killing Aries. Fulfilling his destiny, Kratos kills Zeus and becomes the new king of Olympus
The objective of the game is to guide Kratos through various levels—combining platforming elements with puzzle solving—in search for Pandora’s Box, which he hopes will contain the power necessary to defeat Ares. Various monsters from Greek mythology make appearances, such as harpies, gorgons, cyclopes, minotaurs, satyrs, sirens, and cerberus hounds. New gameplay elements include things like using Hades’ Soul Reaver blade to reflect enemy attacks back at them and being able to swim underwater for short periods of time in order to reach new areas (Kratos can also perform certain moves while under water).
