The tale begins when Mugenden Tenshin clan leader Hayate decides to pick Kasumi as his successor after her brother, Hayate, dies in battle. After hearing this, Kasumi decided to leave the village and seek revenge against Raidou even though she was being killed by her own family. In the story mode, you take on the role of Kasumi and fight a variety of characters while experiencing events. You may also select your favorite fighters to compete in various competitions including Arcade (fights are timed), Survival (a sequence of fights against many opponents until you are defeated) , and Free Play (you may choose the character and opponent). The characters and events will be shown on the top screen in the 3DS version, while the combat action will be displayed on the bottom screen.
